Edenfield C of E Primary School

Church

Edenfield Primary School is a Church of England voluntary controlled school and has strong links with Edenfield Parish Church, which is situated across from the school on Market Street.  The Team Rector, Reverend Andy Lindop, is a member of our Governing Body and is a regular visitor to the school.  Miss Pam Thomas, the Church Reader, also visits and leads School Worship each month.

Singing Club performing Resurrection Rock at the Easter Service 2016

As a school, we worship in church as often as we can throughout the year and our family services are as follows:

  • Harvest Festival
  • Remembrance Service
  • Christmas Service
  • Education Friday
  • Ash Wednesday
  • Easter Service
  • Ascension Day
  • Year 6 Leavers’ Service and Awards

Members of our church support us in school, and church and school provide one another with mutual, prayerful support.

Harvest 2015

This year, we supported ‘End Child Hunger’ and the children did a marvellous job of explaining the science behind nutrition and the dreadful impact of malnutrition on so many children around the world.  We learned that, although the world produces enough food to feed the world’s population of 7 billion people, one person in eight goes to bed hungry each night.  Furthermore in some countries one child in three is underweight. The children certainly gave us ‘food for thought’.  We collected monetary donations for this worthy cause and also donated perishable goods to RAFT (Rossendale Foodbank).  We thanked God for the wonderful pro
duce we can share at Harvest; we prayed for those less fortunate than oursel
ves and an end to child hunger.

Remembrance Service

Every year, we work with members of our local community to create a special project in memory of the members of our village who died defending our country.  Mr Chris Hollis, has been a leading force in working with our children and introducing them to the families of our lost soldiers.  Past projects have included a remembrance book (displayed in church), a field of poppies and a banner which we hung along the church railings commemorating the soldiers who fought in the First World War.  Every year, we hold a service in church, read out the roll of honour and lay flowers on the graves of the soldiers buried in the graveyard.   Earlier this year, we were able to show our appreciation to Chris with a very special gift.   During the Education Friday service, we presented him with a ceramic poppy from the Tower of London ceramic art installation.   He is currently working alongside the current Y6 pupils on a new project for the forthcomimg Remembrance Service.

We believe that it is an important part of the children’s development to play an active part in the life of the church.  We welcome and appreciate the support of parents in doing this and look forward to congregating together, for family services, in our very special church.
